Statement from Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano:
“All departments will share in the sacrifice needed to reform Nassau’s finances and protect homeowners from a property tax increase. PAL is no exception. After reviewing costs within the police department, statistics indicated that 10 police officers were costing taxpayers an average of $180,000 each annually to run a children’s activity league. While a review of the police department is not yet finalized, County Executive Mangano’s savings plan will reduce PAL officers by two to save taxpayers nearly a quarter million dollars annually in overtime. These officers will be placed back on the streets to protect the public and that’s exactly where they belong. PAL is here today, will be here tomorrow and will run just fine with two less officers.”
