Assemblyman Joseph Saladino recently joined members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary at Wantagh Park to promote life jacket awareness and boating safety. Assemblyman Saladino stressed the need for parents and operators of watercraft to make sure everyone, from children to the most experienced swimmer, wears their life jacket when boating. On average, 700 people die each year in boating-related accidents in the United States; nearly 70 percent of these are fatalities caused by drowning. The Coast Guard Auxiliary was on hand for assistance and provided free safety inspections to boat owners at the park to mark the start of Safe Boating Week in New York state. In the photo, shown from left to right are, Vice Commander John Geiger, Assemblyman Saladino, and Stu Cohen.
