The Brookhaven Calabro Airport was brought to life with hot air balloons, music, rides and games as it was home to Metro NY’s First Annual Balloon & Music Festival, on the weekend of August 10th-12th.People came from all over Long Island and beyond to enjoy music by artists such as Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo, with opening act Lennon.
Featuring tethered hot air balloon rides, the Festival provided a once-in-a-lifetime experience.Taking off at sunrise and sunset, these times were recommended, providing a sight never to be forgotten.Popular rides in-between these times took you up to experience the magic of riding in a hot air balloon.Other attractions of the Festival included the amazing Garcia Bros. Circus, an authentic Mexican circus.Inside the big top tent, such acts as the amazingly flexible woman and the Globe of Death were performed to the awe and wonder of the audience. Also available to amuse and amaze attendees were the metro monster truck rally, BMX, skate and moto-cross teams, the Re/Max skydiving team, and a carnival midway with rides and games.Booths and tents for businesses gave Festival-goers the chance to play a game, get a Henna tattoo or, at the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Greater NYC Affiliate tent, enter a Chinese Auction to win one of over 50 pieces of sports and entertainment memorabilia donated by L.I. Picture Frame & Art Gallery. The Auction was hosted and sponsored by WBAB and WBLI to benefit this good cause.

As the day’s attractions closed up, the most exciting part of the Festival took off like hot air in a balloon. The musical talent, to the excitement of the crowd, took the stage and had the audience up and dancing. As their performances rocked the fair, 50 premier balloons took off, surrounding the event in an array of color and shapes.
